The I.D. Sytin Apartment Museum invites you to a lecture on early 20th-century caricatures, dedicated to the personality of Lev Tolstoy and his role in the cultural and political life of that era.

The image of a writer was often encountered in caricature. The magazine “Satirikon” published a special issue dedicated to him. European artists-caricaturists called Leo Tolstoy “The beacon of the Russian revolution.”

In the lecture, you will learn about how the main events of the writer’s life were reflected in the caricature, for example, conflicts and friendships with colleagues at the circle, relations with authorities and the church, as well as what caused him to be depicted as having fallen into hell on a fresco in one of the frames.

Before the guests will speak the head of the comic center of the Smart Library, collector and comic expert Andrey Drozdov.
