Beirut, June 2 /Sin Hua/ — Lebanese authorities confirmed that the Hezbollah group agreed with the US proposal for a “mutual cessation of attacks” with Israel, according to a statement from the administration of the Lebanese president on Monday citing the Lebanese embassy in Washington.

A statement from the Lebanese authorities followed a phone conversation between the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, and the U.S. Secretary of State, Mark Rubio, during which the situation in Lebanon and efforts to de-escalate tensions were discussed.

According to the embassy, the US proposal calls for a mutual cessation of attacks by both sides.

According to the proposed agreement, Israeli strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut will cease in exchange for Hezbollah’s restraint from attacks on Israel. The later terms of the agreement will be expanded and will cover the entire Lebanese territory.

The Embassy of Lebanon reported that U.S. President Donald Trump later informed Lebanon’s ambassador in the USA Nadim Hamade Muawad that he had secured approval for the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal.

N. Kh. Muavad conveyed the results to J. Aunu, who, in turn, informed “Hezbollah” about the development of events, it is said in the statement.

It is expected that the meetings planned for Tuesday and Wednesday will continue the progress achieved, added the embassy.
