UN, June 2 /Xinhua/ — Bangladesh Foreign Minister Halim Raza Man was elected chairman of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (GA) on Tuesday.

190 UN member states participated in the vote. H. Rahman received 99 votes against 91 votes, submitted by the special envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus on issues of the multilateralism of Andreas Kakouris.

H. Rahman, who assumed the position of head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh in February 2026, will begin fulfilling his duties in September, when the 81st session of the UN General Assembly opens. His term of office will be one year. –0–
