On May 29, the meeting of the Academic Council of SPbPU began with congratulations addressed to the politicians who, for the day before thisreceived high awards from the government of Saint Petersburg.
At the Academic Council, the laureates of the named prizes for outstanding results in the field of science and technology were once again congratulated:

For his contribution to the development of the Target Capital Fund SPbPU, the rector of the Polytechnic University Andrey Rudskoy awarded the university’s commemorative medal and gratitude to: deputy general director for personnel of the company “Armtel” Lyudmila Bogdanova and general director of the company “UYT”, a graduate of the Electromechanical Faculty of 2003, Igor Ugarov.
The ceremonial part continued with the awarding of diplomas on the conferral of academic degrees. The diploma of Doctor of Technical Sciences was received by Associate Professor of the Higher School of Industrial and Civil Road Construction Marina Gravit (scientific supervisor — director of the Scientific and Technological Complex “Digital Engineering in Civil Construction” Nikolai Vatin).

The rector of the Polytechnic University noted the merits of his colleagues, presenting them with awards for professional achievements.
The honorary certificate of SPbPU for a significant contribution to digital transformation and ensuring technological reliability of the university’s information systems was awarded to the Vice-Rector for Information Technology and Digital Transformation, Andrey Lyamin.
Certificate of Honor from SPbPU for effective work and significant personal contribution to the development of the university’s information and library support was awarded to the director of the Fundamental Library Viktoria Lysenko.
For a significant contribution to the development of the Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University of Peter the Great, the badges of distinction “For Merit” were awarded to: the head of the chancellery Marina Kvitinskaya and the assistant to the vice-rector Elena Zalesskaya.
Leading specialist of the Visual Communications Department of the Public Relations Office Alexey Smirnov was awarded an Honorary Diploma by SPbPU for many years of conscientious work, professional skill, successful completion of particularly important and complex tasks aimed at enhancing the university’s image.
In a solemn atmosphere, the Director of the Energy Institute, Viktor Barskov, was presented with a certificate of professional-public accreditation of the educational program “Design and Operation of Nuclear Power Plants.”
Words of gratitude were expressed to students and staff, demonstrating a high level of skill in various competitions and contests. Thus, a teacher of the Institute of Secondary Vocational Education of SPbPUTatyana Bazhenova became the laureate of the All-Russian Innovation Competition “Best Young Teacher 2026”and the winner in the category “Designing applied tasks in the service industry”.
Students Egor Alekseenko and Maksim Kuzmin took first place at the International Festival of New Olympic and Digital Sports “Atomic Energy of Sports” in fidzhital basketball.
The coach of the student sports club “Black Bears-Polytech” Viktor Shevelenko and the senior lecturer of the Department of Physical Training and Sports Diana Bareeva won gold and silver at the European Armwrestling Championship.
Active sports activities of Politekta were recognized at the city level: Director of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism Valery Sushchenko and the Director of the Testing Center for the implementation of the standards of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Complex “Ready for Labor and Defense” (GTO) Arsen Yusupov received gratitude from the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg “For many years of conscientious work, high professionalism, significant personal contribution to the development and popularization of physical culture and sports in Saint Petersburg.”With a report on the first item on the agenda “Optimization of the university’s procurement activities,” the first vice-rector Vitaliy Sergeev spoke.
At the coordination of activities and development of the consortium “Russian-African Network University (RAFU)”, Alla Mazina, head of the RAFU Project Office and deputy head of the Department of International Cooperation, spoke. She presented the main results of the consortium’s work. Since 2023, under the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the Polytechnic University has coordinated the work of this international educational project. Today, RAFU includes 105 Russian universities and scientific organizations, as well as 71 universities from 17 African countries.Significant results were achieved during the implementation of the project: a website was launched, the RASU information digest in three languages is published quarterly. Participating universities held more than 100 socially significant events, open RASU information centers were established in Mali, Ethiopia, and Morocco, “RASU Days” were organized at leading universities in Algeria, Morocco, Mali, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, and South Africa. A catalog of online courses of Russian consortium members for African universities was created.
Two directions deserve special attention. The first is the RAFU Summer Multidisciplinary University, which annually gathers more than 300 students from 37 African countries for 20 short-term programs and internships. The second is the support for the reform of higher education in the Republic of Mali. An expert group of RAFU universities, under the coordination of SPbPU, developed and handed over educational and methodological materials to the Malian side for the implementation of 29 basic educational programs in nine in-demand fields. More than 20 Malian specialists underwent advanced training in 2025.
Also, director elections for several institutes and higher schools for a term of one year took place at the Academic Council. Dmitry Karpov, the university’s academic secretary, reported on the control over the execution of the assignments.
Among the current issues, the proposal by RAS Vice President Sergey Chernyshev for the title of Honorary Doctor of SPbPU was approved.
