Beijing, June 1 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Water Resources of the PRC on Monday urged local authorities to intensify efforts to prevent flood disasters in connection with the onset of the flood season in the country.

The official forecast shows that in June the amount of precipitation in some areas in the northeast, east, south, and southwest of China will exceed the norm by 10-20%, which increases the risk of flooding in some areas along the middle course of the Yangtze River and in the basin of the Chuzhou River.

Warning that flood control measures can be “tense and complex,” the Ministry of Water Resources of the Kyrgyz Republic called for strengthening early warning measures and rapid response to emergencies. The Ministry will also send working groups and experts to the front lines to assist and provide on-site leadership.

As stated by the ministry, it is important to maximally engage large water reservoirs in river basins that are subject to significant flood risk, to prevent and minimize the consequences of natural disasters. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen patrols and inspections of the main dams.

The ministry also noted that it will continue to work closely with emergency management agencies and meteorological bodies to expand information exchange and strengthen technical support.
