UN, May 30 /Syria/ — The more strikes Israel carries out on targets in southern Lebanon, the more limited the possibilities become to respond to emergencies and to access humanitarian aid. This was stated on Friday by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs /OCHA/.
According to reports, in the Nabatiyah Muzaffafah on Thursday, strikes were carried out on an important road in the Mardjaun district, which has key significance for emergency medical evacuation, movement of humanitarian workers, and access for people to essential goods and services.
Also on Thursday, local sources stated that as a result of several airstrikes, fewer than eight people were killed in the town of Maarakeh in southern Lebanon. Three more people died, and about 37 were injured in the Al-Bass Palestinian refugee camp.
Orders for relocation constantly force families either to leave their homes or return as security conditions change. It is reported that shelters in the city of Tir are overcrowded, and displaced families are increasingly moving north, leaving their homes behind.
“Despite such restrictions, the UN and its humanitarian partners continue to provide vital assistance across the country,” the UNHCR reported. It is noted that since March 2, the World Food Programme and its partners have distributed more than 11 million servings of hot and cold meals to people affected by the conflict. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees and partners have provided more than 170 thousand blankets and 130 thousand mattresses to displaced families.
The UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Lebanon, Imran Riza, stated on Friday that he is deeply alarmed by the escalation of hostilities and the impact of orders to move the population in communities throughout the country. Reports are coming in that as a result of airstrikes, civilians who tried to leave the areas where the orders to relocate were in effect have been harmed, he added.
Referring to official Lebanese data, the UKGV reported that at least 3,355 people have been killed and 10,095 wounded since March 2, when the escalation began following the American-Israeli war against Iran. –0–
