Washington, May 29 /Xin Hua/ — U.S. President Donald Trump postponed the adoption of a “final decision” on the Iran agreement project on Friday after a two-hour meeting with his national security team in the White House Situation Room.
“The meeting in the situation room has concluded, it lasted about two hours. President Trump will agree only to a deal that will be beneficial to the USA and will correspond to the ‘red lines.’ Iran should never possess nuclear weapons,” the official statement from the White House representative says.
It is not yet clear why the US president has not made a decision.
Earlier on Friday, D. Trump outlined the conditions of a deal with Iran on his Truth Social page, stating that on that day he would meet with his national security team “to make a final decision.”
Among the main US demands to Iran are the destruction of its enriched uranium stockpiles, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz without charging transit fees, and the neutralization of remaining mines.
“Iran must agree that it will never have nuclear weapons or bombs. The Strait of Hormuz must be opened immediately, with no fees for unlimited passage of ships in both directions. All mines/bombs, if any, will be removed,” wrote D. Trump.
The US maritime blockade “will now be lifted,” added the American leader.
According to his report, Iranian enriched uranium, the so-called “nuclear dust,” which was buried deep underground due to American bombings in June of last year, will be extracted by the United States in close coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency and destroyed.
The official representative of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei, stated in a telephone interview with Iranian state media on Friday that the current negotiations are limited in character and do not include the ‘nuclear issue’.
