Kabul, May 30 /Xin Hua/ — At least 18 people died, and another 30 were injured on Saturday morning as a result of a truck overturning, which was transporting recently returned Afghan refugees, in Laghman province in eastern Afghanistan. This was reported in a statement from the provincial police department.

It is reported that the accident occurred in the Kargai area on the highway connecting the capital Kabul with the eastern provinces. The driver lost control, as a result of which the truck went off the road and overturned.

According to the statement, 18 people, including 10 children and five women, died on the spot, and another 30 were injured. All the victims were taken to nearby hospitals, with the condition of some of them assessed as critical.

According to preliminary data, careless driving became the main cause of the accident. The investigation is ongoing, the statement says.

DTP are one of the main causes of mortality in this war-torn country. They occur due to careless driving, overloaded vehicles, poor road conditions, and underdeveloped road transport infrastructure. –0–
