Main news of the day at the UN and in the world: the number of cases of sexual violence in conflict conditions has doubled in a year, residents of Lebanon suffer from hostilities and evacuation orders, the UN again warns of the risk of escalation after a drone strike in Ruma, WHO experts study treatment options and vaccination against a rare strain of Ebola spreading in the DR Congo.

Sexual violence in conditions of conflict

According tonew UN report, in 2025 the Organization registered 9,788 confirmed cases of sexual violence in 21 countries affected by conflict. This is more than double the figure of the previous year. The annex to the report includes a list of 77 parties responsible for systematic sexual violence in conflict situations. Russian forces were included in this list after the UN confirmed 310 cases of sexual violence, mainly against Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian detainees. Israeli forces were also added to the list. HAMAS has already registered on the list.

Situation in Lebanon

Ebola Outbreak
