Moscow, May 29 /Sina/ — The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, on Friday commented on the extensive discussion surrounding incidents with unmanned aerial vehicles /UAVs/ in the territory of a number of European Union /EU/ states, including Romania. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
According to the diplomat, all accusations presented by Russia in connection with the appearance of the BPLA in the EU countries have no documentary confirmation. “All the accusations we hear, in particular about drones somewhere in the countries of the European Union, are all unsubstantiated, no facts, materials, or evidence have been presented,” RIA Novosti quotes her as saying.
She emphasized that the supporting materials were not provided “not only by the Russian side, but also by citizens of European Union countries.” According to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, residents of EU states have the right to know on what grounds and by whom the leaders “construct their accusatory rhetoric” against Russia.
M. Zalarova also pointed out the existing connection between the active discussion of the Romanian incident with the BPLA and the decision to close the Russian General Consulate in Romania in the city of Constanța. She stated that the noise around this incident is used “to justify the closure” of the Russian consular institution on Romanian territory.
Earlier on the same day, the Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that the BPLA entered the roof of a house in the Romanian city of Galați, resulting in two people being injured. After the incident, Romanian President Nicușor Dan stated that due to the incident, it was decided to declare the Russian honorary consul in Constanța, Andrei Kosilin, persona non grata and to close the Russian honorary consulate in that city.
