New York, May 28 /Xinhua/ — Member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi held a meeting here on Thursday with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi and exchanged views with him on the situation around Iran.

Van Ee noted that Pakistan plays an active mediating role in the negotiations between the USA and Iran and is a reliable and competent intermediary.

According to him, China will continue to support Pakistan’s peaceful efforts, work on promoting dialogue and negotiations, and also assist in an all-encompassing ceasefire, so as to restore peace and stability in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region as soon as possible.

M. I. Dar thanked China for its support in mediating Pakistan’s efforts. He noted that the Pakistan-China proposal consisting of five points for the restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region received broad support. Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in de-escalating the situation, the diplomat added.

Talking about Chinese-Pakistani relations, Wang Yi noted that the recent visit of Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to China was successful. The leaders of the two countries reached an important new consensus, which contributed to raising the construction of the China-Pakistan community with a shared future to a new level.

China is ready, together with Pakistan, to support exchanges at a high level, deepen political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, strengthen Pakistan’s potential for independent development, and accelerate the construction of an even closer China-Pakistan community of shared destiny in the new era, said Wan Yi.

The head of Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior also noted the success of the recent visit of Prime Minister Sh. Sharif to China. According to him, Pakistan is ready to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen the coordination of development strategies, promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and deepen cooperation in various fields, in order to continuously facilitate the development of Pakistan-China relations as an all-weather strategic cooperation and partnership.

M. I. Dar emphasized that Pakistan will continue to fully support the initiatives proposed by China and cooperate with it in the implementation of the principles of multilateralism.
