New York, May 28 /Xinhua/ — The United States has imposed sanctions against the Administration for the Control of the Persian Gulf — an Iranian agency regulating shipping in the Strait of Hormuz — as part of the American campaign “Economic Fury.” The US Department of the Treasury reported this on Wednesday.

In a press release published on the department’s website, the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury stated that the Iranian management attempted to impose illegal fees for commercial shipments and to force the court to follow Iran’s instructions in exchange for a safe conduct passage.

It also contains a warning that everyone cooperating with this administration may be subject to sanctions.

“The last attempt by Iranian military personnel to extort funds from global maritime trade proves that ‘economic fury’ has driven the regime into acute need of financial resources,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

On May 18, Iran established the Strait Control Authority for the Persian Gulf — a new body regulating passage through the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement published on May 20 on the social network X, the authority defined its jurisdiction regarding the strait, noting that vessels passing through it must coordinate their actions with the Iranian authorities and obtain the appropriate permission.
