On Thursday, May 28, 2026, with the participation of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the official launch of cargo transportation using unmanned KAMAZ K5 tractors, operated by the Russian transport company NATCAR, along the route between Russia and Kazakhstan took place.

Trucks crossed the border between two states and traveled part of the way in autonomous mode. The event took place during Vladimir Putin’s official visit to Astana on the occasion of the 5th Eurasian Economic Forum.

“The development of unmanned transport is one of the current trends in the automotive industry. “KAMAZ” has been developing unmanned technology for many years and today is the only Russian manufacturer of highly automated transport vehicles based on truck chassis of its own production. The introduction of an experimental legal regime on the roads of the Russian Federation in due time gave us the opportunity to launch highly automated KAMAZ transport vehicles and allows us to test our developments on public roads.”We are glad that today autonomous logistics, which has confirmed its feasibility and effectiveness during this time, is aiming at the international level and is ready to provide further assistance in the development of projects. Possessing unique scientific and technical expertise, the company will continue working on improving unmanned cargo delivery technology not only within the country but also on the global stage., – commentedGeneral Director of PJSC “KAMAZ” Sergey Kogogin.

The partnership between Russia and Kazakhstan in the matter of cargo transportation by highly automated vehicles has become natural due to a combination of factors: a common border, an extensive network of highways, plans to improve uninterrupted communication, etc.

This is an important step for international cooperation in the field of unmanned cargo transportation, since until now countries have been developing unmanned technology exclusively internally and in isolation. However, the maximum effect of implementing autonomous delivery can only be achieved by optimizing and unifying the requirements for the unmanned systems themselves, as well as for the general infrastructure, communication quality, and security.

“Logistics is a global living organism, and limiting its development to the territory of a single country is simply unpromising. I am confident that international projects and cooperation on such a scale are capable of bringing unmanned cargo transportation to a fundamentally new level of service and technology.”, – sharedGeneral Director of NATCAR Samat Sattarov.

NATCAR is one of the main operators of highly automated transport vehicles (HATVs), created by PJSC “KAMAZ” based on the KAMAZ-54901. Its fleet includes 18 such vehicles that successfully transport goods along the country’s main major highways: M-11 “Neva”, TsKAD (A-113), and M-12 “Vostok”. For the company, the start of autonomous logistics between Kazakhstan and Russia is the most important event in promoting the “Unmanned Logistic Corridors” project, which it develops jointly with the Russian Ministry of Transport, PJSC “KAMAZ”, and the State Company “Avtodor”.In the future, the company will continue to open new directions for its drones in order to firmly occupy a niche in the international cargo transportation market.
