Tbilisi, May 28 /Xin Hua/ — The Ministry of Finance of Georgia has successfully placed the first syndicated issue of treasury bonds in the amount of 400 million lari /about 150 million US dollars/. The department reported this on Thursday.

As stated by the ministry, demand for the bonds reached 1.8 billion lari (about 674 million dollars), exceeding the placement volume by 4.5 times. Both local and foreign investors showed high interest, with non-residents accounting for 65 percent of the issue.

“The majority of bonds were acquired by international asset management companies, and among foreign investors, representatives from the United Kingdom and the USA predominated,” the Ministry of Finance’s statement says.

It is noted that the issue is aimed at developing the securities market of Georgia and expanding the circle of foreign investors. Placement is carried out within the framework of the state budget parameters for 2026 and will not lead to additional growth in domestic debt. –0–
