Moscow, May 28 /Xin Hua/ — The introduction of a mutual visa-free regime between Russia and China has opened unlimited opportunities for expanding cultural and humanitarian ties between the citizens of the two countries. This was stated on Thursday at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, responding to a question from Xin Hua correspondent about China’s decision to extend the visa-free regime for Russian citizens until the end of 2027.
“The introduction of a mutual visa-free regime has opened up broad, one might say, limitless opportunities for the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties, interaction, and the establishment of direct contacts between the citizens of our countries,” she stated.
The Russian diplomat emphasized that the good pace of development in such exchanges was given by holding the Years of Culture of Russia and China in 2024-2025. As he reminded, the Cross Years of Education, the solemn opening ceremony of which took place last week in Beijing with the participation of RF and PRC leaders, became the tenth intergovernmental thematic project primarily aimed at youth.
“One of the main objectives of this interstate thematic project, we see as the creation of new opportunities for the training of personnel in advanced areas, participation of young specialists in a variety of academic projects, and comprehensive deepening of knowledge about the partner country,” said M. Zagarova.
According to her, there is great interest in this project both from leading educational organizations and from the faculty and students. “We expect that as many young people as possible will be able to participate in it and find their vocation, their calling, discover new talents, and contribute to the benefit of Russian-Chinese relations of all-encompassing partnership and strategic interaction,” shared the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the expectations.
M. Zaharova also expressed hope that the Russian and Chinese media would widely cover the events and activities held within the framework of the Years of Education between Russia and China so that the youth of both countries could participate in them and receive comprehensive information about the emerging broad opportunities for obtaining quality education.
