Baku, May 26 /Sin Hua/ — On Monday, the final stage of the “Bridge of the Chinese Language” contest among university students of Azerbaijan was held in Baku, where 19-year-old Darya Efimova from Baku State University (BSU) won.
Final, organized by the PRC Embassy in Azerbaijan, was held at BSU. Ten participants from BSU and the Azerbaijani University of Languages took part in the selection. As a result, Darya Efimova took first place and will represent Azerbaijan in the global final of the competition in China.
“In this epoch of an all-encompassing strategic partnership between two countries, the Chinese language has become more important than ever… I believe that language connects people’s hearts and helps us truly understand each other. I believe that the hearts of China and Azerbaijan beat in unison, and together we will create new brilliant achievements,” she said in an interview with Xinhua.
The PRC Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Lu Mei, noted in his speech that in recent years, under the strategic leadership of Chairman Xi Jinping and President Ilham Aliyev, the China-Azerbaijan relations have risen to the level of an all-encompassing strategic partnership. Political mutual trust between the two countries is constantly deepening, humanitarian exchanges are becoming closer, and the traditional friendship is taking on new epochal content.
According to her, the “Chinese Bridge” competition has been successfully held in Azerbaijan for more than ten years and has already become an important means of bringing the peoples of the two countries closer. The Chinese Embassy is ready, together with the Azerbaijani side, to make efforts for the successful conduct of various humanitarian exchange events and to support the development of Chinese language teaching in Azerbaijan, Lu Mei added.
The Vice-Rector for International Relations of BGU Sha Xin Panov stated in his speech that the “Bridge of the Chinese Language” contest was held in Azerbaijan for the first time in 2015. According to him, the regular holding of this contest helps Azerbaijani youth to better master the Chinese language, gain a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture, and strengthen friendship between the peoples of Azerbaijan and China. “Good relations between our countries have created favorable conditions for establishing and developing cooperation in the fields of education, science, and culture,” said Sh. Panov.
The final consisted of written testing, a speech on a given topic, and a talent contest. About 300 spectators attended the event. Student of BSU Yusif Machanov took second place and received the opportunity to go to China for the global final of the “Chinese Language Bridge” as a spectator. –0–
