Beijing, May 24 /Xinhua/ — In the trading complex of Linxi city in Shandong province /Eastern China/, one of the key collection and distribution centers of commercial logistics in China, loaded trucks for cross-border e-commerce are sent one after another northwards to the border checkpoints, then follow transit into Russia through Manzhouli autonomous region of Inner Mongolia /Northern China/.
“This year, trucks are continuously driving into Russia. I’ve been driving back and forth to Moscow for several months in a row, and in a few days I’ll be heading out again,” said driver Zhang Chao, checking his truck before the next trip.
Usually, April and May are traditionally a slow season for trade with Russia. However, this year this “rule” was canceled, and at the same time, the activation of trade relations was directly reflected in the cost of freight transportation.
“If a year ago the price for a flight to the Russian Federation was 70-80 thousand yuan, now the rates have risen to 90-100 thousand,” commented Xian Yutao, a responsible employee of the international logistics company Shandong Linmanou International Logistics Co., Ltd, specializing in direct cargo transportation by road between China and Russia.
According to data from the Main Customs Directorate (GTC) of the KND, for the period from January to April 2026, the volume of trade between China and Russia grew by 19.7 percent year-on-year and reached 85.2 billion USD. In this regard, exports to Russia jumped by 23.1 percent, and imports from the Russian Federation by 17 percent, which indicates a good start to the year.
One of the main beneficiaries of the trade is automotive transport. Previously, import-export cargo between the two countries was mainly transported by sea and railway, but now the business is betting on delivery speed and schedule flexibility.
For example, a truck from Linz reaches Moscow in 8-9 days. “You load one or two cars – and send it off, no need to wait for the train,” explained Xian Yutao. The automotive freight sector was also facilitated by the TIR system /International Road Transport/.
The freight traffic has revived and reversed: if earlier customers in the Russian Federation did not know about the possibility of automobile transportation, now they are actively communicating, sending food products and beverages.
The new reverse frass driver from Russia is a wooden chip – it is delivered directly to Shandong to the warehouses of pulp and paper mills in just a few days, which is much faster and safer than the risky and long sea transportation.
According to data, in 2025 the city of Linyi became the first city in China where three major hubs were simultaneously created, namely: a center for the organization of international automobile transportation, a center for ancillary services to simplify procedures, and a center for the inspection of vehicles. In addition, this city ranks first in the country in the number of vehicles participating in the TIR system and has earned the status of a national nodal point for international railway routes China-Europe.
At the moment, a large international logistics corridor has already been preliminarily formed in the city of LinYi, connecting Japan and the Republic of Korea in the east, Eurasian countries in the west, ASEAN countries in the south, and Mongolia and Russia in the north. -0-
