Beijing, May 23 /Xin Hua/ — The number of enterprises with foreign investment participation in China has increased for the third consecutive year and exceeded 530 thousand, while the total accumulated volume of direct foreign investment (FDI) amounted to more than 3.6 trillion US dollars. These data were reported on Saturday by the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC.
These data emphasize the steady confidence of foreign investors in the Chinese market. By 2025, more than 8 thousand enterprises of the above category increased their investment in China, which is 10% more in annual terms. At the same time, in the first four months of 2026, the number of enterprises with foreign capital that increased their investments in China exceeded 3 thousand.
From January to April, 20,113 new enterprises with foreign investment were established across the country, which is 6.8% more compared to the same period last year. During this same period, the actual volume of utilized foreign investment amounted to 287.69 billion yuan (approximately 42 billion USD), which turned out to be 10.3% less than the previous year.
In the sectoral breakdown, by the volume of actual utilized foreign investments, high-tech industries demonstrated growth despite the overall trend: this indicator amounted to 116.33 billion yuan with an increase of 20.3 percent year-on-year, with this amount accounting for 40.4 percent of the nationwide indicator of actual utilized foreign investments.
According to data, investments from Luxembourg, Switzerland, France, and the USA in the continental part of China increased annually by 110.3%, 60.8%, 58.3%, and 24.5%, respectively.
The Ministry of Commerce of the PRC reported that since the beginning of this year it has held a total of 5 meetings within the framework of round tables for enterprises involved in foreign investments, which allowed resolving more than 180 complaints and problems raised by these enterprises as part of the mechanism of regulatory exchange of opinions. -0-
