Beijing, May 22 /Xinhua/ — The State Committee for Development and Reform /SCDR/ has allocated 50 million yuan /about 7.32 million USD/ from the central budget to support the urgent restoration of the area affected by the earthquake in the Guansi-Chuan Autonomous Region /GCAR/ in southern China, the SCDR reported on Thursday.
Funds will be directed primarily towards the urgent restoration of roads, bridges, water supply systems, and other infrastructure facilities in the disaster zone, as well as schools and hospitals, with the aim of swiftly restoring a normal pace of production and everyday life.
Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.2 occurred at the bottom of the Lunan district of the city of Lüzhou /GCA/, which led to human casualties and material damage.
On Thursday, the State Committee for the Prevention of Emergencies, Minimization of Their Consequences, and Assistance to Victims activated the emergency response mechanism at emergency level 4 for victims of two earthquakes in the district.
In China, there is a four-level emergency response system, in which the first level is the most serious.
