Moscow, May 21 /Xinhua/ — Following the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China that concluded on May 20, Russia-China relations have reached a qualitatively new level. This assessment was made by Ekaterina Zaklyazminskaya, head of the Center for World Politics and Strategic Analysis at the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKSI RAN), evaluating the outcomes of the Russia-China talks.
The parties extended the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between China and the Russian Federation, issued a joint statement on the formation of a multipolar world and a new type of international relations, signed a joint statement on the further strengthening of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction, as well as signed about 40 more joint documents.
“This indicates that our relationship has risen to the next level. Because we have not just extended the agreement. Our leaders signed a statement on strengthening our strategic partnership. That is, we are thus moving forward, deepening the strategic dialogue. This testifies that our relationship is becoming even closer, even more intimate, even deeper,” the expert said in an interview with Xinhua.
According to E. Zaklyazminskaya, a very significant document is the statement on the formation of a multipolar world and new-type international relations. The parties in it fix the aspiration to jointly build a true multipolarity and jointly form new-type relations.
The expert also noted the importance of the personal relationship between the Russian and Chinese leaders. “This is very important because warm relations between the leaders drive all our bilateral relations, our entire bilateral agenda,” she emphasized.
