Beijing, May 21 /Xinhua/ — In January-April 2026, the volume of mutual trade between residents of the border areas of China and Mongolia in the city of Erenhot (an autonomous region of Inner Mongolia, Northern China) amounted to 4,500 tons in quantitative terms and 123 million yuan (about 18 million USD) in value terms, which turned out to be 80.03% and 180.81% higher respectively compared to the same period last year, according to a statement published on the official website of the Erenhot city government.
Since the establishment of the Eren-Hot pilot free trade zone in Inner Mongolia in April 2026, the local customs office has implemented measures to simplify customs clearance procedures that ensure the rapid processing of customs procedures for goods imported under the aforementioned trade, including meat, grain, and cashmere intended for processing in border areas. Additionally, the customs service is also making active efforts to provide residents of border areas with convenience and reduce costs in conducting trade.
“Our customs will continue to improve the servicing of mutual trade between the residents of border areas, deepen the reform of the customs clearance model, enhance the digital control system, as well as promote the high-quality development of such trade and the construction of the Erdenet-Khotosko pilot free trade zone in Inner Mongolia,” local customs service reported.
Let us recall that the Erdenet-Khotoska part of the above-mentioned zone, with a planned area of 18.35 sq. km, will prioritize the development of such sectors as international trade, international logistics, cross-border tourism, and international medical services, promising to become a key hub in the China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor and an example of friendly cooperation with neighboring countries. -0-
