Beijing, May 21 /Xinhua/ — On Wednesday, May 20, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, NPC Chairman Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin jointly visited a photo exhibition dedicated to the unbreakable friendship between the two countries.

The photo exhibition titled “Unbreakable friendship of great peoples, strategic partnership of great powers” was organized within the framework of Vladimir Putin’s state visit to China, which took place from May 19 to 20. The exhibition includes 26 photographs taken by photo correspondents Xin Hua and TASS.

Leaders of two countries carefully examined the photographs, occasionally stopping, and happily conversed, recalling some episodes of friendly exchanges between the two countries in recent years.

In the exhibition hall, the photograph immediately caught the eye, taken exactly 12 years ago. It captured a warm moment when Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, smiling and shoulder to shoulder, walked forward during the official ceremony before the start of the China-Russia talks, which took place at the Conference Center “Xijiao” square in the Chinese city of Shanghai on May 20, 2014.

Carefully selected photographs also captured other impressive historical moments, demonstrating, in particular, how Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin in 2018 together traveled on a high-speed train to Tianjin to participate in an event aimed at strengthening Sino-Russian humanitarian cooperation, how they in 2019 in Moscow left autographs on a Haval car assembled on Russian territory, and how on May 9, 2025, they spoke with WWII veteran and participant of the Berlin operation Evgeny Znamensky during the military parade dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War on Red Square.

From Shanghai to Ufa, from Moscow to Beijing, from bilateral meetings to multilateral conferences, and from face-to-face meetings to remote video negotiations… these photo exhibits clearly reflect the close contacts and deep friendship between the leaders of the two countries, comprehensively demonstrating the fundamental steps taken by both countries in the gradual strengthening of good-neighborliness, friendship, and cooperation between the two nations, and convincingly emphasizing the responsible role of China and Russia as great powers in the cause of maintaining international justice and global stability.

The recent two-day visit of Vladimir Putin to China was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of partnership and strategic cooperation relations and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation. During this visit, the heads of the two states unanimously agreed once again to extend the duration of the specified treaty and to unwaveringly advance strategic cooperation “back to back.”

From the perspective of the exhibited photo exhibition, the abundant successes and practical cooperation achieved by China and Russia in recent years are visible, and looking into the future, there is every reason to believe that the two great neighboring countries will, keeping pace with the times and overcoming various challenges, continuously inscribe new remarkable pages in the historical chronicle of friendly relations.
