Moscow, May 21 /Xinhua/ — Russia and China are not just good neighbors, but strategic partners, whose relationship today is at the best stage in its entire history. This was stated today by TASS Deputy General Director Marat Abulaytin in an exclusive interview with correspondent Xinhua.
“For the world, our partnership is a model of responsible approach to international affairs. Being permanent members of the UN Security Council, Moscow and Beijing speak with a unified position on most global issues, defending the principles of a just world order,” he noted.
According to him, the interaction between Russia and China within the framework of the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, as well as the linkage between the Eurasian Economic Union and the “Belt and Road” initiative, create a foundation for stability across the entire Eurasian continent.
M. Abulatine’s acquaintance with China began in 1984, when he first arrived there for an internship. “It was precisely then that China became truly dear to me; I call it my ‘second home’,” noted the deputy general director of TASS.
“As a journalist, I have worked as a correspondent in the Beijing bureau of TASS for about 12 years in total. Over these decades, I have seen different China: I witnessed the beginning of the policy of reform and openness, the rapid growth of the 1990s, and the subsequent rapid development. I try to visit China several times a year, and each trip brings new discoveries. The scale of changes is colossal: in my eyes, the country has transformed from a state where bicycles prevailed to a world leader with high-speed highways, the volume of the economy, and the level of urbanization. But the main thing has remained unchanged — the warmth and openness of the Chinese people,” shared M.Abulatin.
As he pointed out, Russia and China are connected not only by broad political contacts and record trade volumes, but also by deep humanitarian ties and a growing flow of tourism.
“Humanitarian ties are the foundation on which the friendship of peoples rests. For exchanges to bring maximum benefit, it is necessary to act in several directions. First, it is essential to increase direct contacts between universities, schools, and research centers, actively develop student and teacher internship programs. Second, I am convinced that we need to translate and popularize more literature, cinema, and contemporary art of both countries — this is the best way to understand each other’s soul,” emphasized M. Abulatov.
“And of course, one must not forget the role of the media: it is precisely journalists who form an objective image of the neighboring country in the mass consciousness. As I have said more than once, the exchange of experience and holding joint training seminars for journalists allow us not only to adopt the best editorial methodologies but also to understand more deeply the culture and mentality of each other. Only by combining efforts in education and culture can we pass on our valuable friendship to future generations,” added the deputy general director of TASS.
