Havana, May 20 /Xin Hua/ — The Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Wednesday condemned the accusation made by the USA against the former Cuban leader Raul Castro, stating that this step was aimed at strengthening a “false narrative” to justify the intensification of aggression against the Cuban people.

B. Rodriguez stated on the social network X that the US accusation against F. Castro is “illegitimate and unlawful” and that it is based on lies and ignores documentary and historically confirmed facts about the 1996 event when two planes of the organization “Brothers to the Rescue” — a group of Cuban exiles living in the US — were shot down.

Havana claims that planes were shot down in Cuban airspace and that Cuba acted within the framework of lawful self-defense.

The minister also accused Washington of complicity in the organization and conduct of violent actions against Cuba, while simultaneously condemning what he called extrajudicial killings of nearly 200 people by American forces in international waters in the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean due to alleged connections with illegal drug trafficking.

“Cuba will not renounce its inalienable right to lawful defense,” he said, reaffirming the firm support of R. Castro and the unwavering commitment of Cuba to defend the homeland, the revolution, and socialism. –0–
