Los Angeles, May 19 /Xin Hua/ — The US Coast Guard on Monday reported that it is working together with local authorities to carry out efforts to eliminate a fuel spill in the Ala Wai harbor in Honolulu (Hawaii state).

According to the statement, specialists fighting pollution extract diesel fuel, dyed red, from the water. At the moment, they have used 23 bags with sorbents and other special substances to localize the spill and collect the fuel.

The volume and source of the leak are still unknown. No reports of victims or damage to wildlife have been received so far.

On Sunday evening, duty officers at the command center of the Honolulu Coast Guard Sector received a report about a diesel fuel spill near the docks on the northern side of the harbor.

After sending the federal coordinator and investigators on environmental issues to the scene of the incident, Beregovaya Osyora assessed the incident and forwarded measures to contain the spill to the federal level.

The US Coast Guard has urged the public not to approach the work zone while measures to eliminate the consequences continue. –0–
