Nanning, May 18 /Xinhua/ — As of 11:10 on Monday, the death toll from the earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2, which occurred overnight on Monday in the city of Luocheng in the Guangxi-Zhuang Autonomous Region /South China/, amounted to two people; a 91-year-old man was rescued, the emergency headquarters for assistance to those affected by the earthquake reported.
An earthquake occurred in the Lunan area of the city of Luzhou at 0:21 on Monday, its epicenter was at a depth of 8 km, three people were reported missing.
In the fight against the consequences of the earthquake, employees of the local emergency management service, fire department, and public safety department were involved. Two of the three missing persons were found, but they showed no signs of life. Later, rescuers managed to save the third person, a 91-year-old man, who was urgently taken to hospital; his condition is assessed as stable.
The headquarters for the elimination of the consequences of earthquakes of the Civil Defense and Emergency Situations in 2 hours on Monday launched level III emergency response mode in connection with the earthquake in the city of Lüchou.
The Office of the State Council Headquarters of the Kyrgyz Republic for the liquidation of the consequences of earthquakes and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic on Monday launched an emergency response mode for an earthquake of level IV and sent a working group to the affected area to support local efforts to combat the consequences of the earthquake.
