Beijing, May 18 /Xinhua/ — China resolutely opposes any construction activities by the Philippines on the Chinese-occupied islands and reefs in the South China Sea, said Xue Jian Bin, an official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the PRC, on Monday.

Cidian Bin made such a statement in response to reports that satellite images show the Philippines accelerating the construction of infrastructure on the occupied island and reef in the Nansha Islands.

“China possesses indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and the waters adjacent to them,” said Zhan Bing at the press conference.

“We firmly oppose the construction activities of the Philippines on the illegally occupied Chinese islands and reefs, including the Chunjie Island and Masha Island,” said Cijan Bin.

He further added that China will take unprecedented measures to protect its territorial sovereignty and rights and interests at sea.
