Caracas, May 16 /Xinhua/ — The Venezuelan authorities announced on Saturday that the former Minister of Industry and National Production Alex Saab was deported in accordance with the country’s immigration legislation to conduct an investigation in the USA regarding alleged crimes.
He is suspected of committing several crimes in the USA, and the deportation procedure was carried out in accordance with Venezuelan legislation, according to a statement by the Administrative Service of Identification, Migration and Immigration /SAIME/.
It is reported that the former minister has Colombian citizenship.
Washington has long accused A. Saab of aiding the Venezuelan government in evading sanctions, as well as being involved in money laundering and other alleged criminal activities. He was arrested in Cabo Verde in 2020 and later extradited to the United States. In 2023, A. Saab was released as part of a prisoner exchange agreement between the USA and Venezuela.
