Baku, May 17 /Xin Hua/ — The 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) began its work on Saturday in the capital of Azerbaijan, bringing together representatives of governments, international organizations, scientific circles, civil society, and the private sector to discuss issues of sustainable urbanization and city development.
Forum organized jointly by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme /UN-Habitat/ and the government of Azerbaijan will be held from May 17 to 22. It is expected that the event will become one of the largest international platforms for discussing global challenges related to the rapid growth of urban population, climate change, housing policy, and sustainable development.
As the organizers noted, WUF13 will become an important platform for exchanging advanced experience and innovative approaches in the field of urban development. The forum will focus on issues of ensuring affordable and sustainable housing, adapting cities to climate changes, developing urban infrastructure, and improving the quality of life for the population.
On the opening day, there will be a ministerial meeting on the New Urban Agenda development program, which is included in the official forum program for the first time. During the meeting, ministers and high-ranking representatives will discuss the progress achieved, existing challenges, and priorities for the further implementation of the New Urban Agenda development program.
At the briefing dedicated to the forum, the national coordinator of WUF13 Anar Guliyev noted that for the first time in the history of the World Urban Forum, a Leaders’ Summit will also be held in Baku. On the initiative of the Azerbaijani government, it will involve the participation of heads of states and governments, as well as other high-ranking representatives from various countries around the world.
The summit is aimed at defining the strategic priorities of future cities, strengthening international cooperation, and facilitating the implementation of the New Urban Development Program. –0–
