Wellington, May 16 /Xin Hua/ — Two tourists from the Special Administrative Region of Xianggang /Hong Kong/ died on Friday afternoon as a result of a traffic accident on the South Island of New Zealand. This was reported on Saturday by the Consulate General of the PRC in Christchurch.

Two more Sichuan tourists were injured as a result of an accident that occurred at an intersection in the Selwyn district of the Canterbury region, diplomats said, citing local police.

The diplomatic mission immediately launched an emergency response mechanism to ensure timely provision of consular services and assistance to victims and their families.

The southern island transitions from autumn to winter with unpredictable weather conditions, so the consulate reminded motorists of the necessity to exercise caution on the roads.
