Washington, May 16 /Xinhua/ — The Pentagon has abandoned plans to send more than 4,000 American servicemen to Poland. This was reported by American media with reference to US officials.

As stated on Friday by the acting chief of staff of the US Army Christopher Laneve at a hearing in Congress, the head of the European Command of the US Armed Forces has “received instructions to reduce personnel.”

“I closely collaborated with him on the formation of this unit, and… it was most expedient that this brigade would not be deployed in the combat zone,” said K. Lanev, referring to the 2nd armored brigade.

According to the general, part of the unit has already been sent abroad, and its equipment caught fire en route.

He noted that the order to cancel the deployment came from the office of U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. There has been no official statement yet.

Democratic Party Senator Jean Sha Lin stated that Congress was not notified.

“As far as I know, we were not informed about this,” she told journalists.

Two weeks ago, the Pentagon announced that approximately 5,000 American servicemen will be withdrawn from Germany within the next 6-12 months. –0–
