Islamabad, May 15 /Xinhua/ — A suicide bomber on Thursday drove a car laden with explosives into a camp of intelligence officers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of at least nine security personnel and injuring another 21. This was reported by Xinhua and sources in the local police who wished to remain anonymous.
According to witnesses, the explosion occurred around 19:55 local time at the intelligence headquarters in the Badzhau district.
According to preliminary information, the car loaded with explosives drove up to the main gate of the camp and exploded when the military tried to stop it. As a result, the gate and surrounding walls were damaged.
“After the explosion, well-armed militants opened fire with small and medium caliber weapons, starting a shootout with security forces stationed at the headquarters,” the sources added.
When the shooting stopped, rescue and clearing operations began at the camp. Authorities stated that the process of identifying the deceased and wounded continues. –0–
