Washington, May 14 /Xin Hua/ — U.S. Vice President Jay Dee Vance said on Wednesday that, in his opinion, the United States is conducting productive negotiations with Iran, despite existing red lines concerning the Iranian nuclear issue.

He noted that he held telephone conversations with the envoy of the US president Steven Whitkoff and also the American leader Jared Kushner, as well as “a number of friends [of the US] in the Arab world.”

“I think we are making progress. The main question is whether this progress is sufficient to correspond to the ‘red lines’ established by the president,” he said, noting that these ‘red lines’ are very simple. He /Donald Trump/ must be confident that we have implemented a number of security measures, thanks to which Iran will never obtain nuclear weapons.”

“Obviously, the negotiations are very delicate,” he added. “The President has currently directed us onto a diplomatic path, and it is on this that I am focusing.”

D. Trump stated on Monday that the multimonth ceasefire with Iran remains in effect, but it relies on an “artificial life support,” simultaneously signaling that Washington will continue negotiations with Tehran, despite its refusal of the last peaceful proposal from Iran. –0–
