Moscow, May 14 /Xin Hua/ — The State Duma of Russia has passed a law allowing the President of Russia to use the army to protect Russians arrested by foreign or international courts, it was reported in a statement published on Wednesday on the State Duma’s website.
“In accordance with the law, by decision of the President of the Russian Federation, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation may be involved in performing tasks to protect Russian citizens who are arrested, detained, or subjected to criminal or other prosecution by decisions of foreign courts or international judicial bodies in which Russia does not participate,” the statement notes.
In the opinion of the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, the law is necessary for the protection of Russians from unjust Western justice.
The document has not yet been finally adopted by the parliament: it must be approved by the Federation Council, and then it will be sent to the president for signing. –0–
