Yerevan, May 11 /Xin Hua/ — Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will not attend the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (EESC), which will be held from May 28 to 29 in the Kazakhstani capital, Astana. Armenia will be represented at the event by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan. The head of the Armenian government reported this on Monday at a briefing in Yerevan.

He noted that he had informed in advance the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev that due to participation in the pre-election campaign, he will not be able to attend the parade on May 9 in Moscow and the session of the CIS.

Commenting on V. Putin’s statement that it would have been correct if Armenia had defined itself earlier with a choice between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union, N. Pashinyan stated: “Until there is an inevitability to make a choice, de jure and de facto, we will not bring this issue to the agenda.”

According to him, Armenia is a full member of the EAEU and fully participates in the entire decision-making process.

“We will also hold a referendum when there is objective certainty. My assessment is that there is simply no objective certainty in this. We treat our partners in the EAEU and our participation in the EAEU with great respect,” said N. Pashinyan.
