Beijing, May 11 /Xinhua/ — A member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, chairman of the All-China Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Wan Xinlun, on Monday called on compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to carry out a mission to preserve and develop Chinese culture.
Van Hunin made this statement during a meeting with guests from Taiwan and the mainland part of China who arrived in Beijing to participate in the 3rd Summit of Chinese Culture of the Two Shores of the Taiwan Strait.
As emphasized by the chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, the summit reflects the common conviction of compatriots on both shores that the country’s territory cannot be divided, the state cannot be plunged into chaos, the nation cannot be split, and civilization cannot be interrupted.
According to Van Hunin, compatriots on both sides of the strait should strengthen their confidence in Chinese culture and reinforce the sense of community of the Chinese nation.
He called for strengthening cultural exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, stimulating cross-strait cooperation, and deepening integrated development of the two shores. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of promoting the innovative development of Chinese culture.
Once again reminding of the inevitability of adhering firmly to the principle of one China and the 1992 Consensus, Wan Hunin stated that both shores must decisively oppose separatist activities aimed at “Taiwan independence” and attempts to sever cross-strait cultural ties.
Van Hunin called on the youth on both sides of the strait to form a correct understanding of the history, nation, and state, and to invest their efforts in the beautiful future of the Chinese nation.
The Deputy Chairman of the Kuomintang party, Zhang Jungun, in turn, stated that all residents on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are Chinese, belong to one Chinese nation family, and are brought up in Chinese culture.
Zhan Zhung called for jointly protecting and developing Chinese culture on the common political basis of adherence to the 1992 Consensus and opposing “Taiwan independence,” striving for peace, development, and national rejuvenation.
The 3rd Summit of Chinese Culture on Both Sides of the Taiwan Strait opened on Monday. More than 800 representatives of cultural and other circles of society from both shores of the strait gathered there.
The summit opening ceremony was conducted by the head of the Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party responsible for Taiwan affairs and the Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China for Taiwan affairs, Sun Tao.
Sun Tao expressed hope that cultural figures from Taiwan will join colleagues from mainland China in guiding broad layers of Taiwanese compatriots towards a firm position as part of the Chinese nation, decisively opposing separatist activities of supporters of “Taiwan independence” and foreign interference, and will work for national rejuvenation.
On Monday, the main forum also took place. In addition, the summit program includes a forum for media workers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, thematic sub-forums, exhibitions, exchanges, and visits. –0–
