Beijing, May 11 /Xinhua/ — Due to increased demand for travel during the holiday period this spring and the rise in crude oil prices on the international market, consumer inflation in China continued to grow moderately in April 2026. Official data published on Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) testify to this.

According to the data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the main indicator of inflation, in China increased by 1.2% year-on-year in April of the current year, which is 0.2 percentage points higher than in the previous month.

In particular, the basic consumer price index, which excludes prices for food and energy, also increased by 1.2 percent year-on-year.

In monthly terms, the CPI in April increased by 0.3%, which offset the 0.7% decrease in March and exceeded the seasonal level by 0.4 percentage points.
