London, May 8 /Xin Hua/ — The First Minister of Wales, Eluned Morgan, announced on Friday that she will resign from the post of leader of the Welsh Labour Party after failing to be re-elected to the local parliament /Senedd/ in the recently created electoral district of Ceredigion-Penfro.

As British media note, the incumbent head of government of one of the parts of the United Kingdom has lost their parliamentary seat for the first time in history, thus stepping down from the post.

This result became a serious personal and political defeat for the Labour members, who, according to the media, failed to secure any of the six seats in the Ceredigion-Pembroke constituency. “Plaid Camri” /Wales Party/ won three seats, the right-wing Reform UK took two, and the Conservatives won one.

The Labourists have headed the autonomous government of Wales since 1999. The defeat on such a scale became one of the most serious failures of the party in Wales since the start of autonomy 27 years ago. –0–
