April 27 — the last day of the second stage of the 139th Guangzhou Fair. Since the beginning of the fair, hundreds of thousands of foreign buyers from more than 200 countries and regions have arrived in the city of Guangzhou, Guangdong province. They not only actively conduct business negotiations but also immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere of the city. From exhibition pavilions to commercial districts, from iconic landmarks to thematic markets — international business and tourist routes related to the Guangzhou Fair are raising a new wave of inbound tourism and consumption.

At 17:00 on the eastern square near the Guanzhou TV tower, buses with foreign tourists stop one after another. These are overseas buyers—participants of the Guanzhou fair. When free from business, they ascend in groups to the observation deck of the TV tower to take a ride on the Ferris wheel at a height of 460 meters.

Being one of the key attractions of Guangzhou, the tourist district of the TV tower has improved its cultural and tourist services. For employees working with visitors, a batch of portable translators was purchased; in addition, new cultural and tourist programs were presented. According to a tourist platform, as of April 26, the number of search queries related to trips to Guangzhou increased by 116% compared to the previous month. At the same time, interest in attractions such as the Guangzhou TV tower and night walks along the Zhujiang River continues to grow.

With the continuous increase in the number of foreign tourists, consumer activity in large shopping centers is noticeably reviving. Cosmetics, sportswear, and household appliances are among the most in-demand product categories among foreign buyers. One of the shopping centers has launched the “Discount Month for Guests of the Guangzhou Fair” promotion: Chinese and foreign participants can receive additional discounts on already existing ones by presenting the appropriate identification.

From widespread bilingual service to a smart VAT refund service for outbound tourists — many shopping centers are implementing a whole range of new services, including multichannel and convenient payment acceptance, thereby additionally stimulating consumer activity.
