Beijing, May 9 /Xin Hua/ — According to forecasts from the Chinese Meteorological Administration (CMA), in the next few days, the northern region of China is expected to experience the first strong heat of the year, with air temperatures in some areas reaching 37 degrees Celsius.

On Friday, the CMA reported that over the next 10 days, precipitation levels in most areas of northern China will be below average. Air temperatures will be 1-3 degrees Celsius higher compared to similar periods in previous years, and in some areas, an increase of 4-5 degrees Celsius in temperature is expected.

Starting from Saturday, temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius will rapidly spread across various regions of Northern China. It is expected that by May 13, the abnormal heat will engulf most of the provinces of Shaanxi, Henan, Hebei, Shandong, and Jiangsu, as well as the cities of Beijing and Tianjin, marking the first period of widespread high-temperature weather in Northern China this year.

Meteorological services of Beijing reported that on May 10 the maximum daytime air temperature in the capital will reach about 32 degrees Celsius. According to forecasts, at the beginning of next week the air temperature will continue to rise, with maximum air temperatures during the day ranging from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius, and cooling is expected at the end of the week.

Notably, the period known as ‘Lisi’ / ‘Beginning of Summer’, which is one of the 24 seasons of the Chinese agricultural calendar and began this year on May 5, is characterized by summer weather gradually advancing from southern China to the north, reaching the southern part of Northern China. However, judging by the situation this year, in the coming days it will be warmer in northern China than in the region south of the Yangtze River. And in the second half of this week, in some areas of the North China Plain, summer may arrive earlier than in the southern regions.

Meteorological services have warned that the upcoming heat in northern China will be accompanied by dry weather conditions and bright sunlight. Residents are recommended to limit prolonged activities in the fresh air during the hottest daytime hours. In addition, it is advised to drink more water and take precautionary measures due to sharp temperature fluctuations between day and night. -0-
