Shanxi, May 8 /Xinhua/ — According to data published on Friday, in 2025 the bicycle industry in China experienced stable production growth. The total production volume reached 110.8 million units, which is 11.3% more on a year-on-year basis.

These data were disclosed as part of the proceedings at the 34th China International Bicycle Exhibition in Shanghai. In accordance with global trends in the development of the bicycle industry, focused on ecology, intellectualization, and the production of high-class products, the exhibition this year presented both the latest bicycles and new directions of industry development.

In 2025, leading enterprises in China’s bicycle industry increased their revenue by 9 percent compared to 2024, and profits rose sharply, reported Go Wenrui, Vice President and Secretary General of the China Bicycle Association.

In 2025, China exported nearly 48.94 million bicycles to foreign markets, which is 2.4% more than the previous year, continuing the stable growth rate.

The volume of exports of bicycle parts amounted to $3.63 billion. The U.S. is 10.6 percent higher than in 2024, which indicated an outstanding result.

“The bicycle sector opens new horizons of consumption, and diverse application scenarios stimulate detailed market demand,” said Go Wenyu.

In 2025, a total of 101 cycling races were held across China, which is 23 percent more than in 2024, with the participation of more than 1 million people. The number of amateur cycling clubs in the country exceeded 80 thousand, which contributes to the rapid growth of the bicycle equipment market.

The daily volume of trips on shared bicycles across the country reaches 120 million, which allows supplementing urban transport and better meeting the needs for commuting to work and for short distances within the city.

In 2025, a program for exchanging old electric bicycles for new ones under the trade-in scheme came into force, and a new state safety standard for electric bicycles was adopted. According to statistical data, last year within this program, more than 12.5 million electric bicycles were sold, which is 10 times higher than the figure in 2024.

“In addition to stimulating market dynamics, these standards have established safety norms for the entire bicycle industry at the national level, which contributes to further improving the quality and efficiency of the sector, as well as supporting its high-quality development,” added Gu Wenyu. -0-
