Kyiv, May 8 /Sinshuia/ — A large-scale forest fire broke out in the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl NPP, located in the north of Ukraine. This was reported on Friday in the “Telegram” channel by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU).

Due to strong gusts of wind, the fire is rapidly spreading across the territory. The approximate area of the fire exceeds 1100 hectares.

The situation is worsening due to bad weather, strong wind, and the presence of landmines in certain areas.

To extinguish the fire, units of the State Fire Service, a special technician, and forces of other services were involved.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as of 11:00 on Friday, the radiation situation in Ukraine remains stable.

The press service of the Chernobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve, in turn, stated that the cause of the fire was the crash of a drone. –0–
