The XVI Eurasian Economic Youth Forum was held in Yekaterinburg, which gathered more than 24 thousand participants from 117 countries around the world. Students, young scientists, diplomats, heads of leading universities, government officials, and media representatives discussed the main theme of the forum over several days: “Eurasian synergy: the unity of the peoples of Russia in an era of global change.”

Dozens of competitive tracks took place at the event — from case championships and startup battles to scientific congresses and competition finals. Students of the Higher School of Production Management, the Higher School of Public Administration, and the Higher School of Service and Trade of the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade of SPbPU successfully passed the competitive selection.

Students of VShPM won six prize places. Melissa Varnikova, an undergraduate student in “Management,” took first place in the “HR-ROST” employers’ case competition, and third place in the international essay competition “Modern Trends in Management in the World.” The scientific supervisor was VShPM associate professor Anna Timofeeva. The main task of “HR-ROST” was to develop an HR development strategy for the company “Atom,” known for its high technology and specific requirements for personnel.Melissa proposed not just a theoretical model, but a ready roadmap that takes into account the specifics of the state corporation, modern talent retention trends, and methods for improving internal efficiency.

Participation in the Eurasian Economic Youth Forum competition provides an opportunity to apply knowledge in practice, communicate with representatives of large companies, the scientific community, establish new contacts, and exchange cultural experiences. “I am very glad that I was able to be here and deliver a worthy performance,” shared her impressions Melissa Varnikov.

Master’s program student in “Development and Management in Construction” Mariya Belova won two prize places under the guidance of associate professor of the Higher School of Project Management Olga Ergunova. In the international applied projects competition “Eurasian Marketing Cup” she took second place, and in the international youth startup competition — third place.

Participation in the competition provides invaluable experience that allows one to test theory in practice. The opportunity to present one’s own project to expert practitioners and solve a real case from an operating company serves as an effective tool for developing competencies,” noted Maria Belova.

Creative and analytical works devoted to the development of the urban environment deserve special attention. At the “City: Open the future” congress, several teams from VShPM immediately made it into the top five, and one of them won the gold.

The team of Ksenia Radkova (bachelor’s program “International Business”), Anna Petrova and Dmitry Bobylev (specialization “Management”) under the guidance of associate professor of the Graduate School of Management Elena Kiseleva took first place. Their project on creating a closed-loop system for plastic waste recycling is the result of almost a year of work at the Polytechnic University. The team consistently developed the idea, going through stages from hypothesis to business model ready for pilot testing. Forum experts highly appreciated the depth of elaboration and the realism of implementation.

We gained valuable experience in public speaking, as well as received recommendations for improving the project and advice on building a personal development trajectory from respected scientists and entrepreneurs,

The team consisting of Elizaveta Erosheva, Mariya Kochikyan, and Viktoriya Gerasimova (Management Department) presented a study “Olfactory Marketing as a Tool for Shaping the Identity of a Modern Megapolis using the Example of Saint Petersburg.” The participants made it into the top five best…

Thanks to EEFM, we understood the real economic processes much more deeply and learned to work with large volumes of data. In addition, the competition gave us the opportunity to consider projects from very different people and scales, make new important acquaintances,

Another team from VSHPM in the ‘Management’ direction — Alena Bragina, Karina Velikudinecheva, Diana Ivanova, Alyona Ivanycheva, Katrina Emaye — successfully defended the project ‘Vyborg — the year-round capital of adventures: solving the problem of tourism seasonality in a small historic town.’ Their work also made it into the top five in the ‘City: Open the future’ section. Karina Velikudinecheva noted: The competition gave important acquaintances with people whose projects differ in scale and helped to see new growth points for their own business.

Bachelor’s student (program “Business Administration”) Yana Maevskaya was among the winners in the international essay competition “Modern Trends in Management in the World” (supervisor: Associate Professor of VSHPM Anna Timofeeva) and in the competition “Modern Technologies of Management in Innovative Entrepreneurship” (supervisor: Associate Professor of VSHPM Elena Kiseleva). She presented a paper on the topic: “Spiral Model of Evolution of Management Technologies in Innovative Entrepreneurship.”

Victories of our students are very significant for VShPM. From the first year, we try to build the educational process around real business challenges: students solve company tasks, participate in master classes, and develop their own projects. It is this system that prepares managers capable of analyzing, implementing, and proposing specific solutions,” commented the results of the students Olga Kalinina, Director of the Graduate School of Production Management.

First-year master’s student at VSHGU (majoring in “State and Municipal Management”) Ekaterina Suleymanova won the international competition of scientific works for young scientists and students “Assessment of regulatory impact in state and municipal administration.”

Ekaterina gave a report titled “Assessment of regulatory impact in the housing and communal services sector: problems and prospects,” in which she analyzed the problems of applying Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) in housing and communal services. She showed that the current methodology of the Ministry of Economic Development does not take into account the specifics of the sector: high social significance, the predominance of difficult-to-monetize effects, and the information asymmetry between managing companies and citizens.

The topic of assessing regulatory impact in housing and communal services is particularly important because it affects every citizen. In my research, I tried to show that a unified approach to regulation does not work in socially significant areas — flexible mechanisms and real dialogue with people are needed, rather than formal public consultations. It is gratifying that my conclusions have been recognized at the international level,” commented her victory in the competition, Ekaterina Suleymanova.

I.e. the director of VSHGU Olga Nadezhina congratulated Ekaterina on the victory: Our Higher School trains specialists capable not only of competently applying management tools, but also of seeing systemic shortcomings. The conducted research is a vivid example of how academic work is directly connected to solving real problems of citizens in the housing and utilities sector. I wish Ekaterina not to stop at what has been achieved and to continue contributing to the improvement of public administration in Russia.

Master’s student of the VSHIT (program “Commercial Real Estate Management”) Aleksandra Lazareva became the recipient of the third degree diploma in the international competition of scientific research works by young scientists and students “Corporate Governance, Business Sustainability (ESG), and Development Projects” in the nomination “Best Research Project on Corporate Finance and Investments.”

Aleksandra dedicated her work to optimizing the capital structure of Russian companies in the real estate market. The project defense was conducted in the format of a presentation followed by a professional dialogue. Aleksandra successfully justified the chosen research methodology and demonstrated the practical value of her work by answering questions from the expert commission.

Representatives of the academic and business communities evaluated not only the depth of the topic elaboration and the novelty of the approach, but also the oratory skills, the ability to hold the audience, and the quality of visual support. Alexandra’s work received high praise from experts due to deep analysis and practical value of the recommendations. As a result of the competition, the student of VShSIT was awarded the honorary title “Star of Eurasia.”

The Eurasian Economic Youth Forum is an international platform that provides not only broad communication opportunities for young researchers from different countries but also an objective evaluation and recognition of scientific results by the expert community. The achievement of Alexandra Lazareva, a student of the Higher School of Service and Trade, who was awarded a diploma and the “Eurasian Star” badge, confirms the high level of training of our students and demonstrates the indispensability of participating in events of this format for the professional development and academic reputation of future specialists,” noted the director of HST Olga Voronova.

Participation in the Eurasian Economic Forum allowed me to deepen my knowledge in the field of corporate governance, sustainable development, and project management, to develop skills in solving practical tasks of the Eurasian agenda, as well as to gain valuable experience working at an international level event,” shared Alexander Lazarev with his impressions.

The Director of the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade, Vladimir Shchepinin, congratulated the students on their successful performances: The victories of the students of our Institute are not only personal successes, but also confirmation of the high level of training of bachelors and masters in the main educational programs in the field of sectoral, functional, corporate and state management and economics, with intensive use of practically instruments and solutions of industry and business structure in the educational process.
