The student engineering racing team “LenSportMash” (formerly Polytech NCM — approx. car) participated in the oldest motorcycle exhibition in Russia IMIS, which took place at the Sevkabel Port site in Saint Petersburg.
For the guys, this was the first trip to such a large event. Here they became acquainted with the industry and were able to practically understand how to interact with guests and professional participants. The Polytechnic brought the team’s developments to the event and tried to convey the unique atmosphere that reigns in the CSR workspace at the university.
The team presented the Quattro race car and the Kawasaki motorcycle, which became the engine donor for our racing car. Also, partner products that help bring student engineering projects to life were displayed at the booth.
For new team members, participating in the exhibition became a major event.
This was my first exhibition as part of the team. Preparation and participation in it helped to learn a lot of new things about our team and its history. It was especially pleasing to see so many schoolchildren interested in motorsport who didn’t even know about the existence of “Formula Student,” shared Andrey Emelyanov.
For me, the exhibition was an experience of communicating with people who share the same interests. It was interesting to answer visitors’ questions, and I myself learned a lot of new things from the senior team members. I enjoyed walking around the exhibition, where I especially remembered the swamp with hairy ears! Overall, it was a wonderful teambuilding event that I will remember for a long time,” said Yaroslav Pleshanov.
Participation in IMIS-2026 opened new horizons for the team. Senior participants and new team members gained valuable experience and also established contact with potential partners. Many visitors and participants of the exhibition were surprised by the very existence of such student initiatives based at a higher education institution, and they wanted to learn more about the project.
LenSportMash will become part of the SKB “System Engineering” ecosystem from April 2025. SKB SI is developing a strategy for training young engineers capable of solving breakthrough tasks in the interests of the country’s industry and technological development.
