Tehran, May 7 /Sin Hua/ — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Pakistani counterpart Moin Ahmad Dar on Thursday discussed recent events in the region during a phone conversation. This was reported in a statement by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As stated in the statement, the parties noted the necessity of continuing dialogue and diplomatic efforts, as well as constructive cooperation between regional countries to protect long-term stability and security in the region and to prevent the escalation of tensions.

The phone conversation took place after the TV channel “Al-Arabiya” reported on the same day, citing a Pakistani source, that during Thursday Iran may send its response to the US peace proposal through Pakistan, which acts as an intermediary in the negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

The TV channel also reported, citing sources, that agreements had been reached on easing the American naval blockade in exchange for the gradual opening of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran.

Iran, the USA, and Israel announced a ceasefire on April 8 after 40 days of combat operations that began with American-Israeli attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities on February 28.

After the announcement of the ceasefire, the delegations of Iran and the USA held one round of peace talks in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, on April 11 and 12, during which no agreements were reached.

As reported, over the past several weeks the parties have exchanged through Pakistan several plans setting out conditions for ending the conflict. –0–
