Beijing, May 6 /Xin Hua/ — Box office receipts for Chinese film screenings over the five-day May Day holiday, traditionally characterized by a surge of interest in cinema, reached 755 million yuan (about 110 million USD) as of 9:00 PM Tuesday, exceeding last year’s figure for the same period. This is evidenced by data from Maoyan, one of the largest online platforms for ticket sales in China.
Let us remind you, in 2025 this indicator amounted to 747 million yuan, sharply decreasing from 1.5 billion yuan in 2024.
The highest-grossing film was the crime movie “Vanishing Point,” which accounted for more than a third of the total box office revenue during the period from May 1 to 5, 2026. It was followed by the action movie “Cold War 1994,” the comedy-drama “The Devil Wears Prada 2” from 20th Century Studios, the comedy directed by Chen Sicheng “On the Road to Death,” and the family drama “Dear You.” -0-
