Washington, May 5 /Sina/ — The US military operation to withdraw commercial vessels from the Strait of Hormuz, called “Project Freedom,” is limited in time and conducted separately from the operation “Epic Fury” — a large-scale military operation against Iran, which began on February 28. This was announced on Tuesday by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

“For clarity: this operation is conducted separately and independently from the operation ‘Epic Fury,'” said P. Hegset at a press conference at the Pentagon on Tuesday morning.

“The ‘Freedom Project’ has a defensive character, limited in scale and time,” he clarified. This operation began on Monday.

P. Hegset emphasized that the ceasefire regime between the USA and Iran remains in effect, despite the fact that on Monday there were exchanges of strikes in the Strait of Hormuz.

“No, the ceasefire regime has not ended,” the head of the Pentagon stated. “And we expected that there would be some friction at first, which indeed happened.”

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Kayne, stated at a press conference that since the ceasefire regime was introduced at the beginning of last month, Iran has attacked US forces more than ten times.

Nevertheless, according to D. Cain, this is “below the threshold” required for the resumption of military actions by the United States.

“Since the announcement of the ceasefire regime, Iran has shelled commercial ships nine times, damaged two container ships, and attacked U.S. forces more than ten times. All this is currently below the threshold necessary to resume large-scale combat operations,” noted the general.
