Tehran, May 4 /Xinhua/ — The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Monday presented a map of the new “control zone” in the Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil supplies pass.

The map was published on the official news portal of the IRGC Sepah News. The Corps warned that any vessel not complying with its directive will face “serious risks.”

The eastern boundary of the zone is the line between the village of Ku – Mobarak on the southern coast of Iran and the Emirati port city of Fujairah, the western boundary is between the Iranian island of Qeshm and the Emirate of Umm al-Quwain /UAE/.

The official representative of the IRGC Hossein Mohebbi stated that the announcement does not mean a change in the overall control scheme of the strait. According to him, commercial vessels complying with the transit protocols established by the IRGC Navy, and coordinating movement along the designated routes with Iranian authorities, will be allowed safe passage. Vessels violating these rules may be stopped by force, he warned.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that on Monday, the US would begin helping the ships blocked in the Strait of Hormuz to leave this water area.
