Bishkek, May 2 /Xinhua/ — On Saturday, another international marathon Run the Silk Road was held in the city of Cholpon-Ata in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan under the auspices of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
About 3 thousand professional athletes and amateur runners of various ages from 23 countries took part in it. The race was organized over four distances. In addition, there was a children’s race and a competition in Nordic walking.
The organizers of the event were the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, the country’s Athletics Federation, and the Directorate of the International Marathon with the support of the National Olympic Committee of Kyrgyzstan.
“The Issyk-Kul Marathon has received international recognition. We see some participants of this annual marathon every year. I believe that thanks to the marathon, you have gotten to know each other better and made friends. Taking this opportunity, the hotel would like to greet all our respected friends from abroad, participants of the International Run the Silk Road Marathon of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, who arrived in Kyrgyzstan,” said Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Ulan Mamatkanov.
The goal of the marathon is to strengthen the integration of the SCO countries through the organization of international-level sports competitions, promote a healthy lifestyle, and engage the population in regular sports activities. –0–
