Brussels, May 1 /Xin Hua/ — The European Union (EU) will “leave all possibilities open” to protect its interests if the United States takes measures that do not correspond to the joint statement signed by both sides last year concerning mutual, fair, and balanced trade. This was stated on Friday in an interview with Xin Hua by an official representative of the European Commission.
“We remain fully committed to predictable and mutually beneficial transatlantic relations. If the United States takes measures that do not comply with the joint statement, we reserve all rights to protect the interests of the EU,” the representative said.
This statement was made after earlier on Friday, US President Donald Trump issued another threat — to raise tariffs on imported cars and trucks from the EU to 25 percent next week, accusing it of violating the agreement. –0–
